What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic complimentary therapy whose origins can be found in early civilizations of India, China and Egypt. It was introduced to the Western World by Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American who discovered that following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of “imbalance” and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrors congestion or tension in a corresponding part of the body. Thus when, for example, you treat the big toes there is a related effect in the head and treating the whole foot can have a relaxing and healing effect on the whole body, thus restoring the body to a state of homeostasis (balance).

How can it help?
Since Reflexology treats the whole person, not the symptoms of the problem, most people benefit from treatment. The therapy can bring relief to a wide range of conditions.

  • Relaxation
  • Improves mood
  • Aids Sleep
  • Stress
  • Improves well being

What to expect from your first visit
Your first appointment lasts about an hour and a half and will begin with a consultation where I will ask some questions about your general health, medical history and lifestyle.
You will then remove just your shoes and socks and lie on a comfortable couch where your feet will be examined for visual clues as to any conditions. I will gently wipe over the feet and, using a fragrance-free cream, I will commence a gentle massage followed by a more specific movement targeting any problem areas. The treatment will conclude with a final massage using an appropriate essential oil leaving you relaxed and your body’s own healing mechanisms stimulated.

Fiona Shires

I have lived in Oxfordshire most of my life. Before graduating from University with a degree in English I worked at the Radcliffe Infirmary for a gastroenterologist. This experience inspired me to pursue a career in complementary medicine as my three children grew up. I trained with the Association of Reflexologists and qualified in 1996. After a brief spell living abroad I trained as a teacher and recently retired as Headmistress at a local preparatory school. I now focus entirely on my main passion of reflexology, seeing patients at The Bampton Clinic and the Wantage Natural Therapy Centre. My particular interests are both the journey from conception to birth and healthy ageing but reflexology can help with a multitude of health issues.
Each treatment costs £45 and lasts for approximately one hour.*

*Your initial treatment will be £55 and include a consultation where we will discuss your expectations and relevant medical history. Please allow an hour and a half on this occasion.

I have great confidence in Fiona's ability and knowledge. I always feel at ease and extremely relaxed during the treatments, which I have taken to help ease some of the symptoms of pregnancy. – Michelle, Wantage
Fiona is by far the best reflexologist I've ever met; she is warm, welcoming and extremely professional. I found her treatments thorough and always felt calmer and more balanced after a visit. This was even more apparent when I had a treatment after giving birth. Fiona made all the difference and I'd highly recommend her to anybody. – Rachel, Clanfield
Fiona put me at ease straight away and helped me feel relaxed even before treatment began. 6 months on I feel I am reaping the rewards of the treatments in aiding the recovery of my knee. – Sarah, Burford
