Thai Yoga Massage

History
More commonly know as Thai massage, this ancient therapy originated in India 2,500 years and was developed by an Ayurvedic Doctor and celebrated Yogi ago during the Buddha’s lifetime. This form of healing  spread along with Buddhism to the Temples of Thailand where it was practised by Monks, and soon became an element of traditional thai medicine to treat many ailments and promote overall well being.

At the heart of Thai yoga massage lies the energy system of Sen Lines. These Sen Lines, similar to meridians, run throughout our body and are responsible for the free flow of energy. If this flow becomes obstructed, mental and physical imbalance occurs which may manifest in the form of disease, aches, discomfort and emotional problems.

About
Thai yoga massage combines gentle stretching, acupressure and applied yoga based postures to help re-align the body, aid good posture, increase flexibility and alleviate pain or discomfort.

Stress and tension is relieved by deep pressure which is applied to muscles and nerves by the practitioner’s hands, feet, knees and elbows. Throughout the treatment pressure points are engaged to help stimulate our own natural healing and encourage the flow of Prana (energy). Thai yoga massage is given in a rhythmical manner with each movement flowing into the next creating a deep state of relaxation, allowing our body and mind to become calm and peaceful. Treatment is given through clothing and is carried out on a comfortable padded floor mat.

Thai yoga massage can help with many ailments or conditions, maintain general well being and aid relaxation. It is suitable for anyone and is applied accordingly to your constitution.

Thai Fusion Massage
Thai fusion massage is the union of traditional Thai massage and holistic massage techniques. Together they create a unique therapy which is deeply relaxing and calming on the body and mind.

Aromatic oils are applied to the body by incorporating the different massage styles to help alleviate pain or tension and encourage deep relaxation. Acupressure is applied to pressure points along the Sen Lines to help stimulate natural healing and encourage energy flow. These Sen Lines are responsible for the free flow of Prana (energy) through our body and are engaged to enhance our wellbeing and balance our energy.  Subtle stretching is applied during the treatment to help release any tension or toxins in the muscles and gently tonify.

Thai Foot Massage
Thai foot massage is a luxurious treatment of the lower legs and feet which incorporates gentle stretching and  massage of the reflex points and Sen Lines (energy lines). The reflex points, which stem from Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, are stimulated by using a traditional Thai stick to allow for accuracy of the pressure points. Our feet are the maps of our body and by stimulating the reflex points and Sen Lines we can start to encourage the free flow of energy and begin the process of self healing. Thai foot massage not only balances the body’s energy but also boosts circulation, improves immunity and promotes relaxation. Thai foot massage is an integral part of traditional Thai medicine and is practised commonly throughout Thailand today.

 Kathryn Herbert

Thai yoga massage Practitioner LITYM. (Dip)

Previously qualified in other complementary therapies, I felt the need to offer
something more dynamic than regular massage which had depth to it. As a yoga
enthusiast, I found the combination of yogic postures and acupressure truly amazing and extremely powerful on every level.

This keen interest led me to London where I had specialised training with a Thai yoga massage Master at the London Institute of Thai Yoga Massage. My qualifications are recognised by many professional bodies including ITTA (International Thai Therapists Association).

Having obtained a practitioner Diploma with credits, I feel privileged to be able to offer this ancient healing art to the western world and to continue the truly amazing tradition of Thai yoga massage.
