What is CranioSacral Therapy and what should I expect?
CranioSacral Therapy was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John Upledger and is a method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the crani-osacral system which comprises the soft tissue surrounding the brain and spinal cord. A sensitive touch is used to facilitate release of restrictions in this soft tissue aiming to improve the functioning of the central nervous system and complement the body’s natural self-healing processes.
At your first session, we will discuss your medical history and discover your focus for the treatment. Remaining fully dressed, you will lie on the treatment couch for this hands-on therapy. We often fall into silence to allow you to slow down and re-lax into the session, although you can talk if you wish.
While the treatment progresses your system communicates with my touch through palpation, guiding me to areas of constriction or tightness. As your tissue responds to treatment you may experience feelings of tingling, warmth or release, emotions, a sense of calm and relaxation or you may feel nothing at all.
Following treatment you may feel subtle changes, relaxation, awareness integration and connectedness.
SomatoEmotional Release expands on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy fo-cusing on the physical and the emotional relationship. How this works in a session is that as you describe images, memories or anything that comes into your aware-ness, I am guided by your tissue to facilitate release of any trapped energy, trauma or emotions no longer serving a purpose for you.
CranioSacral Therapy may be enjoyed by adults and children and as well, on its own or in conjunction with other eastern or western medicine practices. You can choose a one-off treatment, regular bimonthly sessions, with the change of the seasons or a spate of regular sessions working on a specific issue, to suit your needs. A pace that is building on your own personal health and wellbeing is ideal. Further detailed in-formation on craniosacral therapy is at www.upledger.com.
